The Orford fly screen lets you keep a door open on a warm day without inviting in flies, wasps and midges. It hangs across the doorway as two mesh panels that meet in the middle, held together by a line of magnets sewn into the edges. Walk through and the panels part easily, then snap back together behind you, so the screen closes itself even when your hands are full with shopping or a tray of drinks.

The mesh is woven from fibreglass, which lets fresh air flow through while keeping insects out, and it stays clear enough to see the garden beyond. Five widths from 80 cm to 120 cm, all 210 cm tall, cover most back doors, patio doors, balcony doors and kitchen doorways. Plain black and white versions blend into the frame, while the striped mesh designs add a subtle pattern.

Fitting takes minutes and needs no drilling on most frames, and the screen can be taken down and stored flat when the weather turns. Pets can nose their way through the magnetic seam too, which makes it handy for households with dogs or cats coming and going.
